ELIZABETH EDWARDS OUTTA LINE?

So I was lying in the hospital yesterday and as the doctor was telling me that I am suffering from a mild stomach ulcer — I thought of Elizabeth Edwards.
Not a convincing segue to this week’s Rag Note huh? well, I tried.
Lizzie (yes, we’re that friendly) Edwards has been in the news a lot lately - and not talking about her bout with cancer. Instead, she’s talking about other things - mainly trashing her husband, former N.C. Sen. John Edwards, rivals in the presidential race.
Don’t believe me? This is what Lizzie Edwards had to say during an interview with Ziff Davis Media:
We can’t make John black, we can’t make him a woman. Those things get you a lot of press, worth a certain amount of fundraising dollars.”
– said Edwards, referring to Democratic candidates Illinois Sen. Barack Obama and New York Sen. Hillary Clinton.
I’m sorry..is she actually complaining?
There is no other way to describe Elizabeth Edwards quote as simply whiny, insulting and just another contribution to Edward’s growing image as an elitist. How ironic for the man who loves to talk about bridging “Two Americas”.
And how moronic to complain about media attention due to Obama’s race & Hillary’s sex as if its somehow comparable or even surmountable to Edwards’ continuous support from the Democratic party for the past 9 years.
After previously being a successful lawyer, Edwards ran for Senate and beat his opponent by a mere 4% in 1998. Edwards was in office a mere 2 years, before suddenly making former V.P Al Gore’s short list for vice president during his failed presidential run.
The rest is history, but my point really is: I’m simply not swayed by Elizabeth Edwards whining when her husband went from being a lawyer to being considered for Vice President of the United States within 2 years. Give me a break.
Considering his V.P mention in 2000 & his presidential run in 2004, Edwards has had media attention for the past 7 years - and yet Lizzie Edwards wants to accuse mainstream media of ignoring her husband now? Puh-lease.
Instead, one can legitimately claim that Lizzie Edwards is carefully trying to appeal to a specific audience. An audience that would respond to this pitiful complaint with a “yea! that’s not right!” There is no space in this column to define that. audience for you - but I’m sure you have an idea. *cough* elitist *cough*
See, some of you might think I’m being overly harsh on Lizzie Edwards for maybe one misled statement. But Edwards continued to allege that the internet was a way to prevent a voter from being kept away from candidates who are not media darlings. Funny she finds this so important, considering her husband wanted to keep “not serious” candidates out of debates. Whatever.
My last point:
I think its obvious that the Edwards campaign has found their intentional wayward missile. That is, the spokesperson for Edwards who can say whatever she wants & attack opponents. Why? Because she has breast cancer of course - You can’t criticize a cancer patient!
Well I will. Because in my estimation - Elizabeth Edwards is way outta line.
