RagMag launched Spring 2007 with a mission to speak to a new age in journalism while resting on a foundation of traditional journalism. In short, it is a multimedia information provider that melds the old with the new. New media in the form of a blog complemented with old media : trained journalists not bloggers, that rely on traditional journalism tenets – particularly objectivity, accuracy, and watchdog investigation.
RagMag serves to highlight the most talented young journalists who believe in the heroism of journalism - being an agent of change - and not its banality.
RagMag is a blog essentially split into two elements: a newspaper and a magazine. TheRag, slang for newspaper, covers politics, business, crime, and law. TheMag, short for magazine, focuses on cultural news, society issues and entertainment.
RagMag is a media-rich blog featuring audio and video streams.
RagMag is looking for a team of highly enthused, internet savvy staffers experienced in print media, broadcast, photography, digital video and film. RagMag offers a variety of positions and a medium through which up and coming journalists can hone their skills while gaining new skills in the process. RagMag doesn’t limit its staffers to traditional print medium, but encourages its contributors to dabble in broadcasting, podcasting, and even
social documentaries, all of which will be streamed from the RagMag website.
RagMag isn’t just any blog site. It is ran and maintained by professional journalists who adhere to a high standard of reporting and ethics. All contributions made to the site will be written and edited in the AP style format.
