The seven NYPD cops involved in the shooting of Sean Bell were slapped with disciplinarian charges on Tuesday that could lead to them loosing their jobs.
Detectives Marc Cooper, Gescard Isnora and Michael Oliver, the three detectives acquitted of the shooting in April showed up to the NYPD station separately and were told to sign a piece of paper detailing their charges.
The men were charged with using their weapons outside of NYPD protocol. In addition, Isnora was charged with violating protocol by taking action while undercover.
Bell, a 23-year-old black man, was killed on Nov. 25, 2006 outside a strip club that the accused officers claim was known for illegal activity. Bell was leaving his bachelor party with two friends when the group was barricaded from exiting the parking lot by the cops - who were undercover.
Rev. Al Sharpton, who RAGMAG reported was arrested two weeks ago for protesting against the acquittal, issued a statement saying the charges were “a step in the right direction.”
“That’s good news,” Bell’s dad, William, added. “On a gloomy day like today, I need some good news.”
