Pennsylvania Democrat Rep. Jack Murtha made an interesting statement on Wednesday. The Congressman commented on John McCain’s age claiming he was too old to be President. 75-year-old Murtha insisted that 71-year-old McCain will have a demanding task if he were to clinch the win in this year’s November election.
“I’ve served with seven presidents,” Murtha said. “When they come in, they all make mistakes. They all get older. This one guy running is about as old as me. Let me tell you something, it’s no old man’s job.”
John McCain did not think much of Murtha’s comments and made a brief statement regarding the age issue.
“All I can tell you is that I admire and respect Jack Murtha,” McCain said. “Speak for yourself, Jack. I’m doing fine. Thanks.”
He further went on to mention that his hard work will show the American people that age will not be a detriment.
“People will judge me by my performance,” McCain said. “My energy, my intellect, my experience and my judgment.”
McCain told citizens to use his 96-year-old mother as an example since she doesn’t this that age is a barrier. Roberta McCain accompanies her son to many campaign events and is actively participating in the election.
“If anyone has any further doubts, come and meet my 96-year-old mother. We’re going to do it. Not to worry.”
