Ooops, Diddy did it again.
For the second time in two weeks Bad Boy Records has claimed the top spot on the Billboard 200 Album chart. This week Day 26, the latest group churned out by MTV’s Making The Band, debut at number one with their self-titled album. The disc sold 190,000 copies during its first week in stores according to Nielsen Soundcan.

Day26 finally manages to get passed their so called “bitchassness” and deliver a solid album. After countless eliminations, voice rehearsals, arguments and failed studio attempts the guys from Making the Band 4 mange to get the point across that they are a force to be reckoned with. In a brief prelude Diddy explains, “The year is 2008/It’s the return of the great,” and wastes no time introducing his latest protégés who he feel will help cause the “return of the empire”—which doesn’t seem farfetched after all the hype they’ve already received.
The self titled debut album Day26 is filled with soothing beats, and smooth harmonies. The guys manage to get past the ‘solo-artist’ mentalities that plagued them in the beginning of the albums production, and come together as one. “Since You’ve Been Gone,” is one of the best examples of the group’s unity, and range. The heart-wrenching vocals and alluring harmonies play alongside one another to create an R&B hit, and wouldn’t be a bad choice for a second single. “Are We In This Together,” is another key track with standout vocals and a conventional ‘feel good’ R&B sound. However, the album could have done without “If It Wasn’t For You.” The track may have a unique production style but it disrupts the intimate vibe of the album. Nevertheless, the positives outweigh the negatives and show enormous potential for the gentlemen of Day26, who’ve proven to be more than just reality television stars.
