Kanye West just may hand 50 Cent his retirement papers after all.

West’s album “Graduation” shot straight to the top of the Billboard 200 chart squashing 50 Cent’s “Curtis” and selling nearly 1 million copies in the process.

Last week, Billboard projected that “Graduation” would outsell “Curtis” but sales for the album were projected to be around 750,000. By the end of the chart week “Graduation” has sold appropriately 957,000 copies compared to 691,000 for 50’s latest. And that’s about a 300,000 difference.

West has more to celebrate, in its first week “Graduation” outsold his previous album 2005’s “Late Registration” which moved 860,000 copies in its first week. Meanwhile, “Curtis” performed well below 50’s last album “The Massacre” which sold 1.1 million during its first week in March of 2005.

In a statement to the Associated Press, 50 said, “I am very excited to have participated in one of the biggest album release weeks in the last two years. Collectively, we have sold hundreds of thousands of units in our debut week. This marks a great moment for hip-hop music, one that will go down in history.”

The two rappers began a friendly feud with each other after 50’s album was pushed back to a Sept. 11 release, the same day as West’s album. 50 sent the feud into overdrive when he told reporters in August that he would retire if West outsold him the first week.

Billboard reports that 50 Cent has already canceled a European promotional tour just hours after loosing to West on the music charts.

50’s record label, Interscope, released a statement saying “50 Cent is very sad to confirm that due to a last minute, unforeseen and unanticipated change in his schedule, he will have to postpone his European promotion trip from Sept. 18-15.”
