
Appearing in a New York City court Sunday, female MC Remy Ma pleaded not guilty to an attempted murder charge stemming from the shooting of a woman on Saturday in popular night-spot area of Manhattan.
Remy Ma, whose real name is Reminisce Smith, turned herself into police custody Saturday night after police reportedly found a 23-year-old woman who had been shot in her lower torso. Police then found an abandoned SUV that was owned by Smith blocks from where the woman had been found and it appeared to have been in a collision.
After turning herself in, Smith was also charged with assault and weapon possession. The victim, whose is Makeda Barnes-Joseph, is hospitalized and in stable condition.
Remy Ma is best known as a former member of fellow rapper Fat Joe’s Terror Squad. The group had a number one Billboard hit in 2004 with “Lean Back.” In 2006, she released her solo album “There’s Something About Remy” to mixed reviewed and disappointing sales. She is scheduled to release her second album, “The BX Files,” next month
Smith’s bail was set at $250,000.
