FABOLOUS “From Nothin to Somethin” released June 12th on Def Jam Records
**Editors Note: From Nothin’ to Somethin is expected to land at #2 on this weeks Billboard Album Charts selling over 100,000 copies**
Brooklyn stand up! Brooklyn boy Fabolous is back with his fourth and latest
release “From Nothin to Somethin.” This is Fab’s first release under the Def Jam umbrella, which
means Def Jam president and fellow Brooklynite Jay-Z is co signing the
sag in Loso’s swag this time around. And with that said Mr. Young
Money has got to show us what he’s got.
By now you should already be acquainted with the lead single “Make me
Better” featuring Timbaland on the beat and r and b man of the hour
Ne-Yo on the hook. And if you have managed to miss it, believe me,
Fab’s lead single on his new label is guaranteed summer heat.
With his new label budget Fab manages to compile a who’s who guest
list of top-notch producers, singers, and MC’s. However, he fails to
get past the cookie cutter radio singles, like “Change Up” with Akon,
“Baby Don’t Go” featuring T-Pain, “First Time” featuring label mate
Rihanna and “Real Playa Like” with Lloyd on the hook.
When Fab is not smoothing it out, he manages to drop some other worthy
collabos that display his ability to keep it gutter. Swizz Beatz
plays hype man on the adrenaline laced Just Blaze produced “Return of
the Hustle.” While Jay-Z and new Roc-A-Fella artist Uncle Murda
assist Loso on the ode to their hometown borough “Brooklyn” with the
late Biggie Smalls looped up on the chorus.
For longtime fans of Fabolous, “From Nothin to Somethin” is a
disappointment, because Fab fails to expand himself and instead
settles for the standard recipe for mainstream success. Fans have come
to expect more from someone with Fab’s street and crossover appeal.
For new fans of Fab don’t expect him to reinvent the wheel, but he
does keep it rolling with plenty of slick lines and some catchy summer
singles. Where Brooklyn at?
